An American Coot catching some sun in Juanita Bay on Lake Washington in Kirkland Washington.  These birds often hang out with ducks, but are actually not a type of duck.  Rather they are more closely related to Rails, Moorhens and Sanhill Cranes than to ducks.  You can often see large flocks or “rafts” of coots floating on Lake Washington.
