My photo of a Cedar Waxwing was published as the Seattle Times “Reader’s Lens” photograph for the week of 2/4/2018. These are amazing looking birds and I was lucky to recently find a flock dining in trees full of berries near Lake Ballinger in Mountlake Terrace, Washington.

My story “Oak Creek Wildlife Area” has just been published in the December 2017  issue of Northwest Travel & Life magazine. The photo above was used with the story. I’ll add a link to the story if it becomes available online. (So far it’s only available in print copies of the magazine.)

Photo of Swallow-tailed Gull in December 2017 Birdwatching Magazine
A Swallow-tailed Gull from the Galapagos Islands on the Edmonds, Washington, waterfront.

Swallow-tailed Gull

This Swallow-tailed Gull was a long way from home when I photographed it on the waterfront in Edmonds, Washington, in early September. The bird was spotted in several places near Seattle for over a week.  This was only the 3rd time one of these gulls that normally live on the Galapagos Islands has been seen in North America, and the first time in the state of Washington. Find another photo on my blog.
