Dunlin on the Edmonds Breakwater

One of the advantages of living five minutes from the Puget Sound is that whenever I get a little bit of time I can make a quick trip to the waterfront and find a variety of interesting seabirds, shorebirds and waterfowl to photograph.

Resting Dunlin

On a recent visit, hundreds of Dunlin were resting on the inside of the breakwater that protects the harbor and marina and I snapped this photo of a small group of them that were resting on a nearby rock.  An Eagle was circling overhead and I’m a little surprised that the Dunlin were sitting as calmly as they were with a predator hovering above them.

Photograph taken with Nikon D7000 and Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 AF-S VR lens.
