Shorebirds of Hawaii’s Big Island

I just returned from a vacation to the island of Hawaii (also called the Big Island.)  On the trip I had the opportunity to photograph several birds that we don’t have here in the state of Washington, including a Pacific Golden Plover, a Wandering Tattler and Black-crowned Night-Heron.  This post includes a photo of each of these birds.  Click on a photo to see a larger image.

The photos were taken from Anaheo’omalu Beach in the Waikoloa Beach Resort, and were all taken fairly early in the morning while the light was good and it wasn’t too hot yet.
