I’m in the process of sorting through all of my bird photos from a trip to Kauai, HI, in August. One of my favorite photos so far is this Pacific Golden Plover portrait shot.
These small shorebirds love to scurry about grassy areas and rocky shorelines looking for food. This particular bird wasn’t too afraid of people and came very close to me as I was sitting in a lawn chair on my condo patio shooting with my Nikon 300mm f4 lens.
Although this bird was in nonbreeding plumage, these birds are especially attractive when they are sporting their breeding plumage. Might have to go back to Hawaii in the winter to get some shots of of breeding Plovers!
