I photographed this Black-crowned Night Heron sitting on the edge of a pond on Kauai. This appeared to be a good place for the heron to get its lunch – periodically the heron would snatch a small fish from the pond and swallow it down.
This was an interesting bird for me to photograph. We have many Great Blue Herons in the area where I live near Seattle, WA. However, although the Black-crowned Night Heron has a wide range across the world, we don’t see them here in the Pacific Northwest.
I love the color contrast of the bird with the green foliage and purple flowers that are surrounding it and the wavy reflection of the bird and flowers in the pond.
