I have photographed Pied-billed Grebes several times during the past few weeks, and was hoping to find a mother with her babies. Earlier this week I was lucky to find a mom with new babies at the Union Bay Natural Area in Seattle, and photographed her catching fish and feeding them to the little ones.
The colors on the faces of the babies are unbelievable–they almost look like a mask on an old totem pole. For about the first week after the babies are born, the mother swims with them on her back—I was really hoping to get a photo of that, but unfortunately these babies were a little too old. I will keep looking!
