Pied-billed Grebe Babies at Union Bay

Spring is a great time for baby animal photography. Here are a few shots of Pied-billed Grebe babies at Union Bay Natural Area in Seattle. In the shot above two babies are tumbling out of the nest to meet one of their parents returning with food.

The shot above shows one of the babies approaching their parent to get something to eat. The crazy colors of these baby grebes are amazing. They look like the stripes and colors you would see on an exotic cat like a tiger. Adult grebes don’t maintain this interesting color pattern as you can see from the mature grebe parent in the photo.
