This Pileated Woodpecker was making quite a racket while enlarging this hole in a tree.  I saw it fly into the hole, where it apparently then started trying to enlarge the hole – I couldn’t see the bird while in the hole, but could sure hear it banging away inside the tree.  Eventually the bird peered out of the hole and I was able to get some great shots of it surveying the are around the tree.

It is definitely a sign that spring is on the way as birds like this woodpecker are starting to build their nesting areas!
