Several weeks ago on a bright sunny day several Red-winged Blackbirds paid a visit to the Edmonds marsh and I was able to photograph one of the birds perching on a cattail. The bright red and orange patches on the birds’ wings added a much needed splash of color to an otherwise pretty dreary mid-winter setting!

I was surprised to see these birds at the marsh for only a single day in early January, as I have not seen them in subsequent visits since then. I assume that they will be more abundant when spring approaches and look forward to seeing more of them and hearing their great chattering call again!
Photographs taken with Nikon D7000 and Nikon 300mm f/4 ED-IF AF-S lens with Nikon 1.4X teleconverter.
