In honor of Valentine’s Day this week I decided to post some pictures of couples in the bird world.  For starters, here is a pair of Hooded Mergansers that I photographed a few days ago in a pond at Point Edwards in Edmonds, WA.  I really find these to be especially neat looking ducks and very interesting to photograph.  Additionally, the major difference in looks between the male (left) and the female is pretty amazing!
