My previous two posts featured Short-eared Owls – owls that are active during the day and hence fairly easy to locate and photograph. The owl in this post is a Long-eared Owl. These owls hunt during the night and rest during the day, so they are not as easy to see.
A few weeks ago when I was photographing Short-eared Owls near Stanwood, Washington, this Long-eared Owl was resting in some dense nearby foliage. Unfortunately, not a great photo because of the branches surrounding and in front of the owl, but it was still a treat for me to see one of these birds for the first time!
