Roseate Spoonbill

A Roseate Spoonbill at Gatorland in Orlando, FL
Roseate Spoonbill

An interesting bird from my trip to Florida last month – a Roseate Spoonbill.  I photographed this bird at Gatorland in Orlando.  There were two of these birds hanging out in a tree located above the Gatorland alligator breeding marsh,  and in fact there were all kinds of interesting birds nesting and resting in the trees over and around the alligator marsh, including a variety of egrets, herons and storks.  (Apparently the birds like the trees above the alligator marsh because the alligators deter predators from getting to the birds and the babies in their nests.)  Click on the photo to see a larger image.

This bird is definitely not like anything we get the opportunity to see or photograph in my native Pacific Northwest!
