My favorite avian winter photography subjects are waterfowl like this male Northern Pintail. I recently photographed this handsome duck at the Fir Island Farm Reserve near Conway, Washington, in the Skagit Valley.

More than 25 types of ducks winter in western Washington during the winter months. One of my ongoing projects it to get some good photos of each species of duck that visits the area. This shot of a male Northern Pintail will allow me to check this species off my list!
