Periodically I go through my old photos to remember past adventures and interesting subjects I haven’t thought about for a long time. This Denali red fox is a great example. I visited Denali National Park in 2011 and can’t believe it’s been 11 years since that trip.

The trip was a cruise from Seattle but also included a 3-day land adventure into Denali National Park. One of the highlights of the land adventure was riding a creaky old bus 90 miles into and out of the park on a gravel road to the lodge we stayed at. From the road we saw amazing wildlife including bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep and wolves. But one of my favorite encounters was with this red fox.

On the way out of the park this Denali red fox was sitting in the middle of the road catching some early morning sun. The bus driver was kind enough to stop and let us get some photos of the fox. (I’m not sure he could have gotten around the fox anyways so a stop was somewhat mandatory.) What a treat to see and photograph this beautiful animal. A great memory and some motivation to get back to Alaska!
