I recently purchased a new Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-P VR lens and headed out to the waterfront to test it for the first time. I have several longer telephoto lenses but wanted a lightweight zoom to take on vacations where photography isn’t the main focus and for hiking. From reviews that I had read the new 70-300mm lens seemed like it could meet my requirements.
My initial impressions of the lens are very positive! Here are a few shots of a hunting Osprey that I took with the 70-300mm lens on my Nikon D500. I was very happy with how fast the lens focused while tracking the flying Osprey and with the sharpness of this first set of photos that I took with the lens. I’ll have to do some more testing but first impressions are that the new 70-300mm is a keeper and will meet my need for a lightweight telephoto zoom.
